JACK Robinson scored a hat-trick of tries as Oxfordshire secured back-to-back victories in the County Championship Shield with a 29-10 win over Buckinghamshire.

They are now level on ten points with Leicestershire, who top Pool 1 after a convincing 36-5 victory against Berkshire.

It is now very simple for Craig Burrows’ side as a win over Leicestershire at Chipping Norton on Saturday will see them secure a home tie in the semi-finals.

Oxfordshire struggled to replicate the scintillating start that put them in control against Berkshire, but Robinson’s converted try and a Henry Lamb penalty saw them lead 10-5 at the break.

Burrows rang the changes at half time with Guy Nicholl, Brendon White, Dave Wells and Joe Chilvers entering the field.

They made an immediate impact as replacement scrum half Chilvers dotted down, before Robinson crossed.

Lamb converted both scores.

Oxford Harlequins’ Robinson completed his hat-trick, before the hosts scored a late consolation.

Burrows admitted the performance was below the standard they set in the first pool game, but was happy with the bonus point win at Buckingham.

“It was going to be difficult to replicate last week’s first half performance,” he said.

“We tried too hard, made silly mistakes and we were getting anxious.

“The boys had their heads down at half time and we put on four subs and they had a big impact.

“We asserted ourselves and dominated up front.

“We seemed to build phases and we were able to exploit that.”

Oxfordshire won the toss and elected to kick with the wind, but there was an edginess about their play.

They finally broke through when Cash Chilvers turned the ball over and Robinson ran in from half way.

Lamb added the extras.

The visitors still struggled to string phases together, but Lamb kicked a penalty to extend their lead before Buckinghamshire went over.

Oxfordshire seemed to benefit from having the wind in their faces in the second half and Chilvers took the ball from the base of the ruck to cross under the posts. Lamb converted.

Shortly after, good forward play led to the ball being spun out wide and Robinson touched down.

Lamb landed the kick.

Robinson completed his hat-trick, before the hosts scored a late try.
