OXFORD University fly-half George Cullen scored 21 points as they defeated University of Queensland 26-21 at Iffley Road.

Cullen kicked three penalties in the first half to give the Dark Blues a 9-7 interval lead, added a fourth after the break and then converted two tries, one of which he scored himself.

Those two tries came when Queensland University were down to 14 men with hooker Tom Morgan in the sin-bin.

The first was poached by replacement scrum half Henry de Berker as he dived under the feet of his back row at a scrum on the visitors’ try line.

Then Cullen started and finished the second.

He ghosted his way over halfway and raced up to the 22 before passing inside to centre Henry Lamont, who almost made the line.

But after the ball was recycled, Cullen was on hand to dive over at the posts.

His conversion hoisted the home advantage to 16 points.

But Oxford had to hang on grimly in the final quarter.

The Queensland tries came from full back Hayden Munck and prop Hamish Richardson, while Brendon Murray added their points from the boot.
