CHINNOR can take a big step towards promotion if they win their National 2 South match at home to third-placed Taunton Titans tomorrow, writes MICHAEL KNOX.

That’s the view of the leaders’ director of rugby Matt Williams, who knows that a bonus-point victory would put them in a strong position as they head towards the halfway stage of the season

“It’s a chance for us to create some breathing space between us and the rest of the challengers,” he said.

“The gap between first and third place would then be 11 points.

“Then the following week, Taunton are playing second-placed Cinderford. So it’s an important time.”

Williams was thrilled with Chinnor’s 20-13 victory at Redruth last week.

“It could be a pivotal win,” he said. “Not many teams play there in the rain and the wind and come away with a bonus-point victory.”

Unfortunately, Orisi Nawaqaliva dislocated a shoulder in scoring one of their four tries and misses the Taunton game.

Danny Barnes switches from to centre, with Phil Chesters returning to fill the vacancy on the left wing.

In the pack, Jack Ramshaw moves from No 8 into the second row, allowing for the return of Alex Waddingham.

Henley Hawks make changes to the front row for their match at home to struggling Clifton.

John Wunder takes over from Tom Emery at hooker and Joe Morris returns from duty with Worcester Warriors.

The only other change in the pack is the promotion of erstwhile regular No 8 Marcus Lowe, who takes over from Matthew Tibbatts.

The back division is unchanged following their agonising 25-24 defeat at Canterbury.

Witney boast that all 18 members of their squad to face Wimborne at home in South West 1 East came through the junior and mini sections of the club.

Following their 18-12 defeat by Old Centralians, they make three changes.

Alan Richens and Adam Copperwheat come into the front row, while Tom Gaffney replaces the unavailable captain Gareth Campbell at scrum half.

Oxford Harlequins also make three changes for their visit to bottom club Marlow.

Chris Davies comes in at hooker, while Huw Dimond returns to fly half and James Stacey to centre.

Grove, who entertain Royal Wootton Bassett, bring in Paul Miles for James Marshall, while Luke Matthews returns for the unavailable Guy Nichol.

Banbury are at home to Statford-upon-Avon.
