CHINNOR secured their place in the National League 2 play-offs for the first time when beating Taunton Titans 56-43 away.

The Thame-based side are now an unassailable 22 points clear in second place with three games remaining in the South division.

Chinnor led 21-0 after 15 minutes, thanks to tries from Phil Chesters, Jack Ramshaw and Jack Gilding.

Aron Struminski crossed for Titans but it was soon 35-5 when Orisi Nawaqaliva and Chesters crossed.

However, a costly final five minutes to the half saw their lead cut to 16 points.

Will Bordill and Josh Barton then went over for Chinnor, but Taunton replied through Jack Claydon.

The visitors remained in control and Chesters completed his hat-trick, Jonny Bentley converting to complete a 100 per cent record from the boot.

Taunton ran in two late tries, but it did not matter.

Henley Hawks fell to a 29-22 defeat at Clifton.

Dave Hyde crossed early, George Jackson converting.

But the hosts made it 14-7, thanks to a Callum Roberts score and penalty try.

A Jackson penalty reduced the arrears, before Will Pomphfrey went over for Clifton.

But Hawks only trailed 19-17 at the break after being awarded a penalty try.

A Barnes penalty and converted try saw Clifton lead 29-17, before Tom Emery crossed for Hawks, but it was only enough for a losing bonus point.
