Wallingford lost 18-11 in South West 2 East at High Wycombe, who made the most of a yellow card for visiting prop Dick Payne.
It was 11-3 to Wallingford when Payne was sin-binned for not rolling away in the tackle, but Wycombe’s pack took control with two quick tries from No 8 Craig Murray, centre Nick Robinson converting one.
Wallingford regained their composure, but could not score again and Robinson slotted a further penalty.
After soaking up the early pressure, Wallingford started to come into the game with their set pieces looking the best they had been for weeks.
Fly half Jackson Sayce gave the visitors the lead with an impromptu drop goal, while Robinson replied with a penalty.
Second-half persistence paid off eventually when the backs opened their legs and wing Ralph Smith was played in neatly to score in the corner.
Sayce added a penalty, but the game changed decisively once Payne was binned.
