ALEXIS Canter is optimistic of receiving a wildcard for the boys’ singles at Wimbledon.

The Long Wittenham teenager will find out this week whether he will make his second appearance at the All England Club.

Canter is the highest ranked British player at 61 in the ITF Junior rankings outside of the top 46, which means he would not directly qualify unless players drop out.

But the 18-year-old is hopeful of making Saturday’s main draw.

He said: “I have not heard anything, but I am the highest ranked British player who is not in.

“It would be very strange if I did not get one, but I can’t expect anything and if I have to qualify that is fine as well.”

Canter is also looking to enter the boys’ doubles with compatriot Luke Hammond.
