DeMar DeRozan has broken the Raptors’ record for most points in a game by a single player as Toronto started the new year with a 131-127 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Before him, former Toronto stars Vince Carter and Terrence Ross held the joint record with 51 points but DeRozan beat that by one on Monday night to also claim a career high of 52 points.

It was not an easily-fought victory, however, as the Bucks forced the Raptors into overtime, but 26 points from Kyle Lowry also helped lift Toronto to their 12th home win in a row.

The Chicago Bulls also took their match into overtime as the Portland Trail Blazers put a stop to their seven-game winning streak at the United Centre with a 124-120 victory.

Kris Dunn claimed 22 points for the Bulls, but it was not enough and two misses late in the game sealed the victory for Portland.

Elsewhere, the Brooklyn Nets claimed a narrow 98-95 win against the Orlando Magic, while the Minnesota Timberwolves overcame the Los Angeles Lakers 114-96 for their seventh win in eight games.
