Frilford Heath’s Tom Fleming came a highly-creditable 17th in the Euro Pro Tour’s Buildbase Open at his home course last week.

Fleming finished on five under par in the three-round event.

The Buildbase Open was won by James Robinson, who broke the record on Frilford’s Blue Course with a nine-under par round of 63 in his opening 18 holes.

The Southport & Ainsdale golfer eventually won by just one shot and was thankful to three shots picked up in two holes on the back nine.

He said: “I felt a little bit of pressure because I knew I could shoot nine under, but I stayed patient, stuck to my routine and played solid golf.

“The key was at 14 and 15 where I made birdie and then chipped in for an eagle.”

Alistair Booth, Frilford’s executive director, said: “It was great from our point of view, the quality of golf was really high.

“We would love to host it again next year if possible.”

Oxfordshire’s Eddie Pepperell shot a final round of 67 to tie for 31st in the BMW International at Cologne.

The Frilford Heath pro finished with a 13-under-par aggregate of 275 to earn a purse of £13,500.

The remarkable thing about Pepperell’s tournament was that two of his four rounds were level par 72s.

His highlight came on Friday when he carded an eight-under par 64.

He was nine-under when he went off for lightning, only to bogey the last hole on his return.

After four rounds, he finished six shots behind the winner, Fabrizio Zanotti, who become the first man from Paraguay to win on the Tour.

Zanotti shot a final day 65 and beat Henrik Stenson, Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Gregory Havret in a play-off.
