WEST Ilsley trainer Mick Channon believes Malabar is ready to do battle at the highest level after landing the Group 3 Whiteley Clinic Prestige Stakes at Goodwood.

The daughter of Raven’s Pass was given a confident ride by Richard Hughes, before running out a length-winner of the seven-furlong contest from Bonnie Grey.

And now Channon has Group 1 races such as the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh and the Shadwell Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket next month in mind for his smart two-year-old. He said: “We always thought she was pretty good. She has got what we call a kick and they are exciting when they come along like that. They don’t come along very often.”

Channon landed a spark-ling 75-1 treble at Bath two days earlier, courtesy of King Crimson and Gratzie, who were ridden by Charlie Bish-op, plus Highlife Dancer, with Daniel Cremin on top.

Vent De Force (16-1) swooped late to win a dramatic Betfred Melrose Han-dicap at York for East Ilsley trainer Hughie Morrison.

Richard Kingscote’s mount claimed the £49,800 first prize by three-quarters of a length from Adventure Seeker, while behind him Mantou unshipped Joe Doyle yards before the line.

Morrison had also been on the mark with Cousin Khee, who romped home in a Southwell handicap under Danny Tudhope.

Panther Patrol completed a four-timer for Blewbury trainer Eve Johnson Hough-ton with a thrilling nose victory under John Fahy in a six-furlong handicap at Ling-field.

Johnson Houghton was also among the winners at Goodwood where Sparkling Ice landed a selling stakes with Amy Scott on board.

Wantage trainer Henry Candy, who suffered the blow of having to pull out Music Master and Limato from their big-race targets at York’s Ebor Festival with the pair showing signs of an infection, gained some compensation when Dream Catcher, ridden by Scott, won at Wolverhampton.

Flashy Diva added to Candy’s list of winning two-year-olds when scoring at Goodwood.

Whatcombe trainer Paul Cole also enjoyed a brace of winners with Ssafa at Kemp-ton and Rotherwick at Bev-erley.
