LOCKINGE-BASED amateur rider Katy Lyons celebrated her first winner on the Flat in the United Kingdom with victory on Weybridge Light at Thirsk – and then followed it up with her second on Highlife Dancer at Nottingham.

Lyons, who runs an equestrian business at Lockinge Stud with her fiance, Steve Barry, has ridden plenty of point-to-point winners.

But she was having just her third ride on the Flat in this country – and her first this season – when partnering Weybridge Light to a three-quarters of a length success in a two-mile novice amateur riders’ handicap for County Durham trainer David Thompson.

Lyons was not finished there as she struck on her next ride four days later when steering Highlife Dancer to a 15th career win in a lady amateur riders’ mile and a quarter handicap for West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon.

SHOWJUMPING: Oliver Fletcher, from Faringdon, helped Great Britain to win silver at the European Championships in Wiener Neustadt, Austria.

Fletcher, 12, riding his father Graham's nine-year-old bay mare Little Business, competed as part of the Children's Team.

He became one of the youngest riders to represent GB and completed two clear rounds.
