Carterton BC have reached the last eight in the National Men’s Top Club competition for the first time.

Having previously knocked out West Witney, South Oxford, Headington, Gerrards Cross and Bletchley St Martin, Carterton took on Cheltenham.

Performing strongly, Carterton won four of the five disciplines to book their place at Leamington, where they will take on Norfolk BC in the quarter-finals this Saturday.

The semi-finals and final are to be played on Sunday.

This feat follows the successes achieved by Carterton bowlers in this season’s Oxfordshire competitions.

Stuart Richens won the two-wood singles crown, Tim Jupp, Andy Martin, Stuart Richens and Paul Sharman took the foursomes title and Wendy Sandy won the ladies unbadged singles.

Carterton were also represented at the National Championships by triples runners-up Dave Clanfield, Andy Martin and Paul Sharman.

l Chipping Norton BC's indoor section will be opening the season with a bowls drive open day on Saturday September 19, starting at 2pm.

Coaching sessions are held every Monday morning throughout the season from 10am until noon, with beginners welcome.
