GOLF: Despite shooting a third-round 66 at Kingsbarns on Saturday, Eddie Pepperell missed the cut in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship by 11 shots.

The Abingdon golfer and his partner, former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen, were tied 130th in the team event and also failed to make the final day.

Pepperell paid for a disastrous second round at Carnoustie on Friday, when he followed eight bogeys in his opening nine holes with a triple-bogey seven at the tenth.

He recovered a little on the back nine to shoot a nine-over 81, but lost any chance of making the third-round cut.

Ex-British No 1 tennis player Tim Henman, who lives in Aston Tirrold, near Didcot, and professional partner Danny Willett, came tied 29th and also missed the cut.

The event was won by Dane Thorjorn Olesen.

Meanwhile, Pepperell’s club Frilford Heath stayed on course to retain their Shaw Gibbs Oxfordshire Foursomes League KO Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over The Oxfordshire in their semi-final at Hadden Hill.

In the final on November 7 at a venue to be decided, they will meet Hadden Hill, who beat Buckingham 2½-½ at Frilford Heath in the other semi-final .
