A dominant display in the relays led Abingdon Vale to a convincing victory in the third and final round of the National Arena League at Leamington Spa.
Swimming against teams from hosts Stratford, Leicester, Hereford and Belper Marlins, Abingdon’s depleted squad pulled out all the stops to win 13 of the 50 events and triumph by 19 points.
|Their efforts in the relays made the difference with younger swimmers competing in older age groups such as Cameron Bullock, 13, Max Bolcato, 13, Oliver Hodgson, 14, and Will Devetta, 15.
Stand-out individual wins came from Lottie James, 11, (50m backstroke, 50m butterfly), Caitlin Wheatley, 18, (100m butterfly), Daniel McNamara, 13, (100m backstroke), Sam Cruttenden, 11, (50m breaststroke), Max Bolcato, 13, (100m butterfly), Yasmin Tajalli, 14, (100m freestyle) and Tappy Ross, 13, (100m freestyle).
The result means Abingdon secured their position in the Premier Division of the West Midlands League for 2016 after finishing mid-table.
Result: 1 Abingdon Vale 198pts, 2 Leicester Sharks 179, 3 Leicester Penguins 172, 4 City of Hereford 170, 5 Belper Marlins 156.
