ABINGDON’S Carrie Walker and India Weller shone on their debuts in the senior British Championships at Liverpool.

The 15-year-olds both managed to achieve top-20 placings, despite suffering from injury and illness in the build-up to the event in front of 5,000 spectators.

Walker competed on only two of the four apparatuses due to an ankle injury, and suffered with some errors on bars and an uncharacteristic fall on beam.

However, she still finished in a brilliant 13th position on beam, showing what potential she has on this apparatus.

Weller returned to full competition for the first time in three years after battling with a long-term elbow injury which has kept her from training or competing bars for two years.

Determined to compete even after having her appendix removed last month, she showed true character and finished a notable 19th in the overall standings.

Her top scores came on the beam and in the vault.
