TENNIS: Alexis Canter was unable to achieve his dream of playing in this year’s junior French Open.
The Long Wittenham teenager was beaten 6-3, 6-4 by French wildcard Hugo Gaston in the first round of qualifying for the boy’s singles.
Canter, 17, had hoped to partner Alastair Gray in the doubles, but they were not included in Sunday’s draw which was decided on the players’ combined ranking.
FOOTBALL: Sam Barder scooped three awards at Wantage Town's presentation evening.
The midfielder won the manager’s player of the year, players’ player of the year and young player of the year.
James Glover was named supporters’ player of the year.
RUGBY: King Alfred’s Academy claimed two prizes at the David Woodfoffe Memorial Sevens tournament in Hungerford.
The Wantage school clinched the boys' year 7 plate and the Broadmead Estates Spirit of Rugby Trophy.
The latter award is given to the school which demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship.
