WALLINGFORD RC followed their domination of the British Masters Championships with another five medals at the Henley Masters Regatta last weekend, writes John Wiggins.

Raced over the first half of the Henley Royal Regatta course, rowers aged from 36 to well over 65 contested this international event.

Contestants struggled in difficult blustery conditions but experience prevailed at the top end of the age groups as Wallingford’s Colin Cusack and Sean Morris avenged their defeat at the British Championships with a win in the G pair.

Charles Parry with former Wallingford sculler, Tom Bishop (Quintin BC) won the G doubles before the two crews combined, each for their second medal in the G quad scull.

Eyeing a trip to the Head of the Charles Regatta, USA in October, Wallingford’s long-standing double partnership of Mike Edge and Peter King joined forces with Steve Pearson and Richard Smith and cox Sara Ball to win the D coxed four event beating hosts Upper Thames RC.

Rachel Edge, Julia Wilks, Alice Brown and Jenny Taylor continued an unbeaten season to take the D category quad sculls.

Wallingford lost out in three semi-finals, while Andy Hull was a losing finalist in the B single category.

Abingdon RC achieved three wins on the River Taff at Llandaff Regatta, Cardiff.

Racing over 1000m, Dave Reeves achieved his first win in the Masters B event.

Paul Godsafe won the Masters D/E single event before the pair joined forces to win the IM2 double sculls.
