EAST Ilsley trainer Hughie Morrison put Nearly Caught's dramatic improvement down to a liking for the French air after the gelding landed the Group 2 Darley Prix Kergorlay at Deauville in emphatic fashion.

Umberto Rispoli had made all the running on the 11-2 winner when successful over the course and distance in the Listed Prix du Carrousel a month ago.

And the Italian jockey repeated the same tactics on Sunday to slam Candarliya by three and a half lengths and capture the first prize of £54,485.

Morrison, who won the mile and seven-furlong contest with Alcazar in 2005, said: "He's obviously improved 10lb coming to France. Going left-handed and a flat track and travelling - you wouldn't believe it. It's great to win the race again."

Scarlet Dragon continued the impressive run of Eve Johnson Houghton's Blewbury stables, near Didcot, when taking the Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Stakes in fine style at York's Ebor Festival on Saturday.

She beat her previous best total of 28 winners in a calendar year when Diable D'Or got off the mark at Chepstow two days earlier, sparking a double at the Welsh track completed by Fantasy Queen.

And Scarlet Dragon provided her most valuable triumph of the campaign when galloping home by two and three-quarter lengths to claim the £37,350 first prize in the extended mile and a quarter handicap under Luke Morris.

Wantage trainer Henry Candy is eyeing a crack at the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint with Limato after the gelding finished an honourable second to Mecca's Angel in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York.

Tackling five furlongs for the first time, the four-year-old justified connections decision to stump up £30,000 to add him to the field by claiming the runners-up prize of £89,708.

Now Candy's thoughts are switching to Santa Anita on November 5.

He said: "I think we needed to see him run a race like that over five furlongs to go to the Breeders' Cup with any confidence because they do go an awful pace over there, but I think he would cope with that."

Paul Webber could send Tindaro from his Mollington stables, near Banbury, to San Sebastian in northern Spain in a bid to repeat last year's success in a Flat race after the gelding landed a handicap chase at Stratford in the hands of Richie McLernon.

Ben Case, who trains at Edgcote, near Banbury, landed a 48-1 double at Worcester courtesy of 6-1 shots Croco Bay and Ginger Fizz.

The pair put up really game performances with Croco Bay landing an extended two-mile handicap chase by a head from Canicallyouback under Daryl Jacob, before Ginger Fizz pipped Dry Ol'Party by a nose in a two-mile handicap hurdle, with Kielan Woods on board.
