Wallingford RC’s lightweight women are celebrating after winning gold at the World Championships in Rotterdam, writes John Wiggins.

Two members of Ben Reed’s high performance squad claimed victory in the quad sculls ahead of Germany and China.

Wallingford’s Ellie Piggot and Brianna Stubbs were again in the crew that took silver last year, having previously won gold in the U23 double in 2013.

Their clubmate, Gemma Hall, in her first senior world championships finished 12th overall in the single.

The fourth of the Wallingford quartet at the championships was Mary Wilson in the U23 quad which finished sixth in the A final.

At domestic level, Pete King completed his summer of regattas with another win in the single – this time at Gloucester Regatta in the Masters C event.
