TEMPLE Church fuelled Derby dreams for East Ilsley trainer Hughie Morrison by taking victory at Newbury.

The son of Lawman’s triumph in the Haynes, Hanson & Clark Conditions Stakes saw him join an illustrious roll of honour which features the likes of Shergar, Rainbow Quest, King’s Theatre and Nayef.

Jimmy Fortune’s mount may be a long way off following in their hoofprints, but he earned a 50-1 quote for next year’s Investec Derby from Paddy Power after edging out Raheen House by a neck in the mile contest.

Morrison said: “I’d be doing the race a disservice if we didn’t think of discussing a Derby trial next year.

“He’s a nice horse to go to sleep on in November. I just hope that we can keep the dream alive over the winter.”

West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon teamed up with jockey Graham Lee to strike three times on the northern circuit.

Kassia returned from a seven-week break to take Pontefract’s richest handicap – the £30,000 EBF Breeders’ Series Fillies’ Handicap – over six furlongs by three-quarters of a length from Stellarta.

A drop to five furlongs saw Lincoln regain winning ways by a length and three-quarters from Classy Anne in an Ayr handicap, while Organza claimed a mile maiden stakes at Thirsk.

Toulson continued the good form of Blewbury trainer Eve Johnson Houghton by scoring on his handicap debut at Sandown.

The three-year-old stayed on well in the hands of Charlie Bishop to collar Bedrock by half a length in the mile-and-a-quarter contest.

Johnson Houghton also saw her own colours carried to victory by Becca Campbell, who was retained for 4,600 guineas after bolting up by five lengths under Sophie Killoran in a six-furlong apprentice selling handicap at Brighton.

Whatcombe trainer Paul Cole struck on the same card when Upstaging provided jockey Jim Crowley with his 100th winner of the season with victory in a six-furlong handicap.
