WANTAGE trainer Henry Candy, whose stable star Limato could head to France on Sunday, continued his late-season renaissance with a brace of winners at the weekend.

Limato may bid to go one better than last year when he was second to Make Believe in the Qatar Prix de la Foret, with the Group 1 contest on Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe day rerouted to Chantilly as building work continues on a new grandstand at Longchamp.

The four-year-old gelding’s participation in the seven-furlong contest – for which he is the 2-1 favourite – will be ground dependent with his preference for a sound surface, which currently prevails at the picturesque venue.

In the meantime, Candy was cheered by victories from Spring Fling at Haydock on Saturday and Squiggley at Epsom on Sunday, with Dane O’Neill in the saddle both times.

Spring Fling landed her first win for more than two years.

She held off Edward Lewis by half a length to triumph in a six-furlong handicap.

And Squiggley, whose only previous outing came at Salisbury just over a year ago, made a winning return with a three-quarters of a length verdict over Henry The Explorer in a maiden stakes over a mile and a quarter.

Candy also struck earlier in the week with Artists Model, who opened her account with a clear-cut success in a fillies’ handicap over an extended mile at Leicester under Fergus Sweeney.

Tara Celeb made it two wins out of two for West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon on the same card with a gutsy head victory over Fields Of Song in a six-furlong fillies’ nursery in the hands of Andrea Atzeni.

Channon continued his good run when Father McKenzie and Lincoln gave him a 20-1 double at Pontefract, with Graham Lee doing the steering.

Father McKenzie (5-1) got off the mark at the 11th attempt in a six-furlong maiden stakes, while Lincoln (5-2 favourite) followed up his Ayr win by finishing powerfully to defying top weight in a six-furlong handicap.

Back at Epsom, Medieval returned to winning ways for Whatcombe trainer Paul Cole by making all the running under title-chasing jockey Jim Crowley to land a conditions stakes over an extended mile by a length and three-quarters from Defoe.
