GOLF: Eddie Pepperell missed the halfway cut after a five-over-par 77 in the second round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship – finishing last on 153.

The Abingdon pro already had work to do after an opening 76.

The 25-year-old endured an inconsistent first nine holes, before struggling to make up ground, dropping shots at his 14th, 15th and 16th holes.

Pepperell birdied his penultimate hole, but a double-bogey at the last compounded his misery.

His hopes of competing in this week’s Qatar Masters depend on two players dropping out.

ATHLETICS: Five Abingdon AC youngsters have been selected to represent Oxfordshire U11 at the South Regional Sports Hall Competition to be held at Burgess Hill, West Sussex on February 11.

They are Oliver Thompson, Oliver Mellor, Ruby Herring, Hana Horby and Freya Halsall.

TENNIS: Diana Mascenikova, from Didcot, clinched the 14 & under crown at the LTA Grade 4 Winter County tour event in Southampton.

In the final, she beat Aimee Bromfield (Essex) 4-3, 4-2 to earn a place in the Grade 3 regional finals.
