WANTAGE trainer Henry Candy had a day to savour with a sparkling 180-1 treble at Goodwood.
Noble Peace (6-1) set the ball rolling, before Queen Of Time (11-2) and Rebecca Rocks (3-1 joint favourite) completed the Kingston Warren handler’s hat-trick.
Candy said: “It’s been a wonderful day, especially after we struggled all last season for winners.”
Connections of Noble Peace have set their sights on a return to the Sussex track in two months’ time for the big meeting after the four-year-old pipped Pastoral Player by a head in a seven-furlong handicap under Harry Bentley.
Plans for Queen Of Time could be revised to include a trip to Royal Ascot next month for the Sandringham Handicap after the three-year-old followed up her maiden win at the course by taking a mile fillies’ handicap by two and a half lengths in the hands of Kieran Shoemark.
Candy said: “She improved a hell of a lot from last time and I think she will improve again, as she was very heavily in season today.”
Rebecca Rocks completed Candy’s haul when securing her first win by making all the running to take a five-furlong handicap by a length from Lightoller, with Pat Cosgrave on board.
Whatcombe trainer Paul Cole struck on the same card when May Remain made it third time lucky with a three-quarters-of-a-length triumph over Mother Of Dragons in the opening five-furlong novice auction stakes under Jamie Spencer.
Helfire triumphed at Kempton to provide a welcome distraction for East Ilsley trainer Hughie Morrison, who is currently embroiled in a drugs case.
The master of Summerdown Stakes is fighting to prove his innocence after being charged with breaching the rules of racing following a positive test on his horse, Our Little Sister, for the anabolic steroid nandrolone after a race at Wolverhampton in January.
Helfire’s short-head success in a seven-furlong handicap under Charlie Bennett provided Morrison with a lift as did King Of Scotland when he opened his account by springing a 16-1 surprise with the same rider on board in a mile and a half handicap at Leicester.
Blewbury trainer Eve Johnson Houghton was also among the winners at the Midlands track when On To Victory broke his duck by taking a mile handicap in good style under Tom Marquand.
And Geoffrey Deacon’s Compton stables enjoyed a 16-1 winner at Brighton when Suitsus claimed a mile handicap in the hands of Timmy Murphy.
