EVE Johnson Houghton achieved the notable feat of sending out a winner from her Blewbury stables on five consecutive days when Silver Ghost triumphed at Goodwood.

The four-year-old continued the Woodway handler’s phenomenal run of form by taking a mile-and-three-furlong handicap by a length and three-quarters under a well-judged front-running ride by Charlie Bishop.

Johnson Houghton’s five-star show was kicked off by 9-1 chance Running Cloud, who made an impressive debut at Wolverhampton.

Described as an “absolute cracker” by the trainer at her annual yearling parade last November, the son of Cacique stormed home by four lengths from 1-4 favourite Makanah in a six-furlong novice stakes with Bishop again on board.

Johnson Houghton and Bishop teamed up again 24 hours later at Sandown to strike with Jake’s Hill, who got off the mark in a mile and a quarter maiden stakes.

Miss Inga Sock recorded her third win this term when holding on by a neck from Mr Frankie in a mile and a quarter handicap at Brighton, with Georgia Cox in the saddle.

And Goring, ridden by John Fahy, made it four winners in as many days by battling to a head success over Fox Trotter in a seven-furlong handicap at Chepstow.

West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon sent out Best Of My Love to spring a 50-1 shock at Nottingham and initiate a 139-1 across-the-card double completed by 7-4 favourite Milton Road at Goodwood.

Best Of My Love, who had shown some promise when fourth at Goodwood on her previous start, made a mockery of her long odds to hold off Kitty Boo by a short head in an extended mile maiden fillies’ stakes under Rob Hornby.

Channon then saw Milton Road carry his own colours to victory in a five-furlong selling stakes in the hands of Silvestre de Sousa, before having to go to 9,500 guineas to buy back the son of Mazameer.

Madeleine Bond made it third time lucky for Wantage trainer Henry Candy with an easy five-lengths success in a seven-furlong maiden auction stakes at Chepstow in the hands of Fergus Sweeney.

Compton trainer Geoffrey Deacon got off the mark for the jumps season when Moon Trip sprang a 20-1 surprise with a six-lengths success in a handicap hurdle at Fontwell, with Dave Crosse in the saddle.

And Undisputed opened his account for Blewbury trainer Noel Williams by taking a maiden hurdle at Newton Abbot under Tom Scudamore.
