WANTAGE trainer Henry Candy will weigh up whether to keep Limato at six furlongs for the July Cup or step his stable star up in trip for the Lennox Stakes next following his creditable third in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Bouncing back after below-par runs in Santa Anita and Meydan, Ryan Moore’s mount took the minor honours after being a little squeezed for space in the closing stages as The Tin Man pipped Tasleet by a neck.

Candy wasn’t looking for excuses, though, for the 2-1 favourite, saying: “Ryan said he was third best at that stage – end of story.”

The Kingston Warren handler added: “It will be a toss-up between the July Cup (at Newmarket) and the Lennox (at Goodwood).

“Ryan is rather in favour of the July Cup, which is quite surprising as he would be on Caravaggio in that.”

Candy didn’t go without a winner on Saturday, though, as Spring Fling gained a Listed Race success in the Scottish Sun/British Stallion Studs EBF Land O’Burns Fillies’ Stakes at Ayr.

West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon landed an 18-1 double at Bath courtesy of Jersey Breeze (7-4 fav) and Lightoller (6-1).

Pattie continued the West Ilsley handler’s winning run by taking a mile fillies’ handicap at Pontefract under Silvestre De Sousa.

Plymouth Sound ended a sequence of 20 successive defeats since his debut win three years ago for Blewbury trainer Eve Johnson Houghton by taking a Lingfield handicap by five lengthsin the hands of Charlie Bishop.

Kingston Lisle handler Heather Main also struck at the Surrey track when Golden Isles opened her account at the 13th attempt with a battling success in a mile and a quarter handicap, with George Wood in the saddle.
