ABINGDON RC overcame their busy schedule with ease as they enjoyed plenty of success at Maidenhead Regatta, writes John Wiggins.

Seven of the club’s scullers contested nine events over the 500m sprint course, winning five of them.

Husband and wife, Tim and Karen Baker, lost out in their respective singles competitions.

But together they were unbeatable, winning the mixed masters E doubles.

Another partnership that has already proved successful is that of Abingdon’s Dennis Engelke and Falcon RC’s Naomi Sharma in the double.

At Maidenhead, their tally was extended, winning in both the IM3 and masters C events.

Tim Baker and Engelke combined to win the masters D double, before the latter, in one of the last races of the day, took his total to four with victory in the IM3 singles.

Club captain Nicky Simpson could not add to the success, losing in the final of the masters D event with Corinna Demnar.

Jo Henderson lost out in the masters C novice singles final by only two feet.
