EDDIE Pepperell produced a superb six-under-par round of 65 to finish joint third in the KLM Open in Holland.

The 26-year-old golfer, from Abingdon, birdied three of the last four holes to finish on a 13-under-par total of 271, just two shots behind the winner Romain Wattel, of France.

It was Pepperell’s second top-five finish in his last two tournaments, after finishing in a share of fifth place at the Czech Masters a fortnight ago.

After consistent rounds of 69, 68 and 69, his final 18 holes – the best of the day – helped him pocket more than £64,500.

It secured a first top-three finish on Tour since he was runner-up at the Irish Open in May 2015.

The Frilford Heath tour professional has climbed to 75th in the Race to Dubai money race, with the top 60 set to compete in the end-of-season spectacular in the Middle East.

Pepperell is also now placed in the top six of the points table for next year’s Ryder Cup in Paris.
