WALLINGFORD RC claimed eight victories when they hosted the long distance sculling race, writes John Wiggins.

The hosts featured in each of the three divisions with wins in the morning for the women’s Masters C quad (Karen Walker, Rachel Edge, Suzie Pilkington and Gabi Tose), for Kat Butler and Leigh-Ann Bard in the open double and for Sean Morris in the over-seventies, Masters H singles.

The shorter second division produced victories for Wallingford J15 quads – the boys (Rhydian Watson, Philip van der Veen, Sam Fanstone, Noah Barlow and cox George Brinson) and girls (Anna Grace, Bethan Morrison, Freya Sharp, Olivia White and cox Cameron Mackinnon). There were second places for the boys J15 double over the short course and the girls J16 quad in the first division.

In the third division, back over the long course, the J16 boys (Richard Mangion, Stan Whitty, Ed Devetta and Ben Sumner) dominated the quad event with Abingdon RC30 seconds behind in second place. The hosts’ masters squads were again prominent with wins for the men’s E quad (Andy Knight, Michael Wilkinson, Ian Wilkinson and Ted Garlick) and for Jenny Taylor in the D single.

l Wallingford RC scullers Ellie Piggott and Gemma Hall, represented Great Britain in the lightweight quad at the World Championships in Florida, with their regular coach, Ben Reed, selected as well.

The crew came first in the final.
