HARWELL tumbling gymnast Ben Goodall completed his recovery from a serious back injury by taking a super silver medal at the British Championships in Liverpool.

As a result of his success, he has been selected to represent Britain in the World Age Group Championships to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, in November.

Having spent the whole of 2016 unable to compete due to a serious back injury, this year was meant to be all about the road to recovery.

But he exceeded all expectations by taking bronze in the first British qualifier and silver in the second.

In the Championships, Goodall was competing against the country’s top 16 tumblers in the 17–21 year age category.

After the first round of runs, his triple twisting double back somersault saw him lying in second spot.

His second run saw him perform the highest difficulty score of his career – a double straight somersault transition, performed in the middle of the tumble run – ending with a double twisting, double back somersault to a near perfect landing.

His reward for this was the highest score of the round, which kept him second going into final day.

After the first run, Goodall held the gold medal position with his highest score of the weekend.

However, in a hard-fought competition he dropped back down to second – a silver medal, which was an amazing reward for his comeback season.

Goodall, who now trains in Milton Keynes, is on the look out for sponsorship.
