EDDIE Pepperell birdied three of his last five holes at Kingsbarns to retain his hopes of a high finish in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
The Frilford Heath golfer shot a second-round 69 to stand on a three-under-par total of 141 at the halfway stage of the tournament, which is played over three courses.
After his level-par 72 at Carnoustie, Pepperell needed a strong round to stay in touch and recorded four birdies and just one bogey to be placed inside the top 50.
Pepperell will play St Andrews tomorrow before the top 60 professionals compete in the final round at the famous Old Course on Sunday.
