Wallingford RC retained their Over 50s title in the coxed fours at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, USA, writes John Wiggins.

Defending their 2016 title, the same Wallingford crew of Mike Edge, Pete King, Steve Pearson and stroke, Richard Smith – steered again by Sara Ball – opened up an early lead in the three-mile processional race along the Charles River.

They were never caught as they won by 30 seconds in a new course record of 17mins 5 secs.

Also racing for Wallingford was the single sculler, Heather Moon-Vogels.

While a lightweight sculler in the US more than a decade ago, she was a winner at the event on three previous occasions, but returned in the Masters 30+ category and finished sixth.
