THREE Abingdon gymnasts impressed against some of the country’s best competitors in the British Championships at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

Lili-Mae Snuggs, Lexie-Mae Neal and Carrie Walker held their own in the prestigious event.

Competing against the top 14 and 15-year-olds in the country, Neal exceeded expectations, completing all four pieces of apparatus without error to secure a brilliant 16th out of 53 gymnasts.

A stunning performance also saw the 13-year-old come 16th in the floor event.

Snuggs, who only turned 13 at the end of last year, finished 37th, showing excellence on bars and carrying just one error on beam when competing against girls almost two years her senior.

Walker, 18, contested the senior event and took on a field of European, world and Olympic gymnasts in her final elite competition before hanging up her leotard.

An excellent routine saw her finish 19th in the beam.

Walker is now retiring from the sport before heading to university in September.
