DIDCOT’S Martin Green was disappointed after coming fourth in the World Benchpress Championships in South Africa.
Ranked second in the 105kg bodyweight class, Green blamed the below-par display on his preparation.
He said: “I had to lose two kilograms in bodyweight in two days, was last to weigh-in and had only 40 minutes to warm up.”
His first lift of 252.5kg was adjudged a failure. After an unsuccessful appeal, he was successful second time around to move into the silver-medal position.
Green, who is sponsored by Steventon Back Pain Centre and LA Muscle, failed with his third attempt of 255kg and had to settle for fourth.
“The 105kg bodyweight class was the most competitive,” he said.
“If I had lifted in the next bodyweight class up I would have got silver.”
