West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon is set to be double-handed in the Qipco 1000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket on Sunday with outsiders Laugh Out Loud and Nayarra.

Channon, seeking an elusive first Classic success, has booked Richard Hughes to ride 33-1 shot Laugh Out Loud, while Martin Dwyer will be aboard 50-1 chance Nayarra.

Unraced as a juvenile, Laugh Out Loud has quickly made up for lost time, winning her last two starts at Kempton after finishing second on her debut at Wolverhampton.

Following her latest success, Channon said: “She showed us plenty as a two-year-old, but was never without the odd niggling problem.

“She did everything very pleasingly at Kempton and although she’s done it on the all-weather up to this point, I think she’ll be even better on the turf.”

Nayarra, meanwhile, has been a model of consistency, finishing in the frame on eight of her ten starts.

She ended her juvenile career by breaking her duck in style in the Group 1 Premio Gran Criterium at San Siro, Milan.

And she showed she had trained on by finishing a neck second to Esentepe, who was receiving 3lbs, in the Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket last month.

“We all think the world of Nayarra,” added Channon. “She’s not the biggest, but she deserves her chance.

“Carrying a penalty to be beaten a neck in the Nell Gwyn was hugely encouraging.

“She’s been knocked for her size, but she’s got the form in the book.

“As Alan Ball always reminded me, ‘It’s not the dog in the fight, it’s the fight in the dog’, so let’s let the experts knock her for stature and we’ll treat her like the nice filly that she is.”

Channon’s duo are among 21 entries for the first fillies’ Classic, with the betting headed by Maybe.

WEST Ilsley trainer Denis Coakley provided Eddie Ahern with a winner on his comeback ride, after three months out with a shoulder injury, when Hurricane In Dubai (7-1) scored at Kempton yesterday.

Meanwhile, Paul Rich, who trains at Hatford, near Stanford in the Vale, sent out Lesley’s Choice (8-1) to follow up his recent course and distance win under James Doyle at Wolverhampton last night.
