LUTON Town will keep Oxford United guessing about how they intend to line up tomorrow after experimenting with a variety of formations.

The Hatters used a 4-4-2 system as they claimed a 1-1 draw at Accrington Stanley in Sky Bet League Two last Saturday.

But they switched to a back three in midweek, going on to beat Bristol City 3-1 at Kenilworth Road.

Luton boss John Still was delighted with the way his side performed in the Capital One Cup and felt the change of formation was key to pulling off an upset against Championship opposition.

He said: “What we’ve tried to do in pre-season is look at 4-3-3, 4-4-2 and 3-5-2.

“We felt if we could remain solid and disciplined we could catch (Bristol City) on the break and we did that.

“It worked perfectly and the boys did really well.

“By and large our organisation, discipline and fitness are first class at the minute and the more games we play the better we’ll get technically.”

Luton and United were among the bookmakers’ favourites for promotion before a ball had been kicked in anger.

Still is well aware of the threat Michael Appleton’s men will provide.

He said: “They’ve got some decent players, but like all leagues, it’ll be a tough game.

“In this league a lot of teams have made themselves stronger."
