OXFORD United head coach Michael Appleton has dismissed reports he is considering an offer to become Manchester United’s academy chief.

According to the Sunday People, the Red Devils want the 40-year-old, who started his career at Old Trafford, to reshape their youth set-up.

But Appleton laughed off any suggestions linking him to the role.

He said: “Man United is a massive club with lots of people who have got fantastic experience, with the likes of Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt.

“I’m sure they have got everything under control and they don’t need Michael Appleton to come and help.

“I am absolutely delighted with what is going on with Oxford. I am very happy.”
