OXFORD United have confirmed the details for their training camp in Spain next month, which will see them play one friendly.

Michael Appleton’s side will face third tier side UD Marbella, on Friday, July 15 at at United’s training base at La Cala Resort, near Malaga.

United were hoping to play a second game during the trip, but could not find a suitable solution.

Jonty Castle, the club’s head of football operations, said: “It was important to try and find opponents who would be the right level for this stage of pre-season.

“Marbella are a good side and that should be a really exciting game to watch.

“We worked extremely hard to find a second game for the week as well.

“We looked at every possible way of making it work but it has to be the right balance of a competitive fixture and a decent work out for the players and in the end it just wasn’t feasible.”

The squad fly out on July 10 and are set to receive plenty of backing, with 350 fans already notifying the club they will be travelling.

Just like last year’s trip to Austria, there will be several events which will see supporters mixing with players and staff.

An open training session will be held at the MPFS Football Training Centre near Marbella on Tuesday, July 12.

Chairman Darryl Eales will be hosting a barbeque after the game against Marbella.
