OXFORD United intend to arrange loans for several younger players on the fringes of the squad, but are not expecting any to leave on deadline day.

Clubs in English football's top four divisions have until 11pm today to make final changes to their squads.

With the emergency loan system banned from this season, once the window shuts they will be unable to sign players until January.

But it does not apply to the non-league pyramid, where United expect to aim their youngsters to gain experience.

The likes of Jonny Giles and Josh Ashby have struggled to get into the 18-man squads on a matchday and are likely to be among those considered.

Head coach Michael Appleton did not think any approaches would come from Sky Bet League Two clubs today, so any outgoing activity is expected after the window closes.

He said: "The younger players we’re talking about it’s more likely it will be Conference level, but 24 hours is a long time in football.

"If any did come up we would have to be 100 per cent sure we were covered in that position.

"The good thing with the younger ones is if they go out to the Conference we don’t have to do it today.

"It will be more making sure we get the ones we want in first and then worry about the young players going out on loan and getting experience."
