CANICE Carroll can play for Oxford United at Milton Keynes Dons today after an agreement was struck with the Republic of Ireland Under 19s.

The defender was included in a squad for friendly matches against the Czech Republic today and on Monday.

But U’s boss Pep Clotet thanked his Irish counterpart Tom Mohan for allowing Carroll to delay his travel until after the Sky Bet League One game at Stadium MK.

He said: “I have spoken a lot to his manager in Ireland.

“I have kept him updated and he was very happy that if he was with us on Saturday he could fly after the game.

“It’s good for Canice as well to play for the national team. It’s more minutes, so it will be positive.”

The scan on Curtis Nelson’s jarred knee did not show any problems, so a late decision will be made on whether he can play today.

Wes Thomas is in a similar situation after returning to training, while deadline day signings Alex Mowatt and John Mousinho are available.

The Dons were also active on Thursday, bringing in Aidan Nesbitt, Scott Golbourne and Alex Gilbey.
