AN upbeat Pep Clotet felt Oxford United’s point against Rotherham United was still a useful one despite allowing a two-goal lead to slip at the Kassam Stadium.

The hosts appeared to be on course for a win which would have taken them above the Millers and into fifth place in Sky Bet League One.

But Rotherham came from 3-1 down to make it 3-3 and had a winning goal ruled out for a push late on.

Clotet rued the way a victory had squirmed out of reach, but was nonetheless positive about United extending their unbeaten league run to five games – their longest of 2017.

He said: “We’ve won three and drawn two – if you always have results like that you’ll have a very good season.

“The important thing is if you don’t manage to kill off a game and the opposition turn it against you and still you don’t lose, then it’s a valuable point.

“At the end of the league all these little points matter.

“We could not win the game, but it’s an important draw against a strong side, the same as Tuesday (1-1 with Charlton Athletic).”

Clotet’s only change from the draw with the Addicks was at right back.

An injury to Christian Ribeiro promoted Canice Carroll, who had a testing afternoon which saw him inadvertently set up Rotherham’s opener with a poor defensive header.

Clotet said: “Canice gives us a lot of good things – he’s good when he goes forward, he’s aggressive and his mentality is always spot-on.

“It’s just about correcting a few mistakes, but everyone makes them.

“Ribeiro’s hip got a little bit inflamed after the game on Tuesday.

“I hope these two days off will do good for him and hopefully next week he can start training. I don’t think it’s going to be a long one.”
