THE terrible scenes involving Fabrice Muamba’s collapse were felt by everyone in the Oxford United squad.

U’s players led a minute’s applause at the Kassam Stadium before their game with AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday to show their support for the Bolton Wanderers midfielder, who remains in intensive care following a heart attack at White Hart Lane last Saturday.

United’s Liam Davis played against Muamba in a reserve game between Coventry City and Arsenal several years ago.

He said: “It was quite shocking to see, thankfully he hasn’t passed away, but he’s still in a critical condition – I hope he pulls through and everything’s fine.

“Naturally the football community is a small one so when something happens to a fellow professional it does touch you as well.”

Peter Leven said: “Your heart sinks and then you see the pictures with the players like Jermain Defoe and Van der Vaart praying.

“It’s scary with someone at his age, you just never know with life what’s round the corner.”

The reaction of the Spurs fans stood out for U’s manager Chris Wilder.

He said: “There’s a lot of rivalries in football between opposing fans.

“But when you see the pictures on the TV and there’s Tottenham fans crying and singing for someone on the opposition and wanting him to pull through it says everything.

“It really shows you what people in football are like deep down.”
