Fit-again Potter is raring to go for Oxford United
9:30am Monday 4th June 2012 in Oxford Utd
ALFIE Potter says he cannot wait to get back into action.
The Oxford United winger has missed the last six months with an ankle injury picked up in a freak training incident.
But the 23-year-old has been given the all-clear by doctors and says he is itching to get started.
And Potter admitted that being forced to spend so long on the sidelines has been the hardest time of his professional career.
“If we were still training, then I would be able to join in fully today,” he said. “It has been the most frustrating time in my whole career.
“I have had muscle injuries before, but this is the first bone I have broken and there have been some real lows during the last six months.
“The bone will take up to a year to fully heal, but I have worked the muscle back and I’m raring to go.”
Potter will continue to push himself over the summer and is hoping that the extra work will put him ahead of others when they come back pre-season.
“By the time the new season comes around it will be six months since the fans last saw me play, so hopefully I can come back and hit the ground running,” Potter said.
“I have worked hard with the physios and medical team at the club and I will be coming in regularly all through the summer to keep working and make sure I am fitter than ever for pre-season – it can’t come quick enough for me now.”
Potter scored twice in 27 appearances for United last season – both goals coming in the games against Burton Albion.
