Oxford United boss Chris Wilder was happy after his side were handed a home draw against AFC Bournemouth in this season’s Capital One Cup.

The U’s will entertain the Cherries at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday, August 14 – a match which will take place four days before the 2012/13 npower League Two season starts.

Yesterday’s seeded draw meant that United were certain to face a team from higher in the Football League pyramid.

“We are at home which is always nice,” Wilder said.

“We have had three positive performances in the competition since we returned to the Football League and want to continue that.

“It’s an opportunity of playing against a team from a higher league and testing ourselves seeing where we are at – we want to progress.”

It is the third year in a row that United have had a home tie in the first round.

After beating Bristol Rovers – who were then a league above the U’s – 6-1 in 2010, United then took on West Ham at Upton Park and lost to a last-minute Scott Parker goal.

Last season they lost 3-1 to Cardiff after extra-time, the Welsh side going on to reach the final.

Bournemouth finished 11th in League One last season and are managed by Paul Groves, who took over after the dismissal of former Oxford striker Lee Bradbury.

It will be the first time for ten years the sides have met in a competitive match – they did, however, play in a pre-season friendly in 2007.

“As well as being in front of our fans, it’s obviously good financially,” Wilder added. “Going to West Ham put a bit of extra money into the pot and that can only have a positive impact on the football club.”

Wilder admits, however, that this will be the first time he will have started a season with a cup match rather than a league fixture.

“I’ve never had that before,” he said. “But it doesn’t make any difference – we want to win every game of football we play, and this one will be no different.”
