OXFORD United have been awarded the team of the round award for their Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory over Swindon Town last month.

Kemar Roofe scored twice in the second round tie as the U's secured a 2-0 win and booked their place in the southern area quarter-finals.

The U's are preparing to take on Dagenham & Redbridge in the competition tomorrow night and have also received a donation of Johnstone’s Paint to be used on a club project.

Head coach Michael Appleton said: “It was a fantastic night for us and a victory that the fans and everyone associated with the club really enjoyed.

“Kemar got the headlines for his two goals, but it was a real team performance, which it needs to be when you defeat a side from a higher level.

“Hopefully we can use that result and performance to have a really strong run in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this season because Wembley can come into view very quickly.”

Sheffield United's 5-1 win over Notts County and Wigan's 3-2 victory at Crewe Alexandra were also shortlisted.

Richard Mazurkiewicz, marketing manager of Johnstone’s Paint, said: “The second round saw some very impressive performances and plenty of goals from teams looking to make a real impact in the competition.

“But Oxford’s local derby victory against a Swindon team playing in Sky Bet League One was the standout result and performance of the round and they are very worthy winners of the award."
