NINE new alleygating schemes have been designed for some of the most crime-afflicted neighbourhoods in Burnley.
Alleygates are one of the favourite community safety devices employed by the borough council – though some residents are less than enthused about their success.
One of the most wide-ranging plans will see gates erected behind Francis Street and New Hall Street in Daneshouse, and another is planned for the ginnels of Coal Clough Lane, Scarlett Street and Queensberry Road.
Richard Brown, a Streetscene official, said in a planning report that the locations had been selected after studying anti-social behaviour figures over the past two years.
He added: “The gating order has been granted for 12 months.
“The crime figures will continue to be monitored over the next year.”
Each resident will be given a key to the pairs of gates and there will be access allowed for refuse vehicles and emergency services and utility companies as required.
