  • "Unless Pompey bring in excess of 4000 I can't see the gate being over 9000. On recent home form this game won't generate a large home gate, fans are getting dejected not only by the results but by performances too. Wilder David before Christmas that if we could repeat the first half seasons 41 points then we would at least be in the mix. That seems a big doubt to me at the moment, the players and management seem to have lost confidence as have we fans. The team doesn't suddenly go from good to bad but confidence , in Football in particular, is a huge thing and that confidence seems to have ebbed away, unlike the flooded pitch at Charlton, and this enforced delay won't help. Hopefully the result will go our way on Saturday, it certainly needs to!"

Oxford United expecting bumper crowd for Pompey visit

First published in United News

OXFORD United are predicting a crowd in excess of 9,000 as they return to action against Portsmouth on Saturday – and we have five pairs of tickets up for grabs.

The U’s have suffered three postponements due to waterlogged pitches in the last week, but there are no concerns over the playing surface at the Kassam Stadium.

It is good news for the club, who are expecting a big crowd as they attempt to complete a first league double over Pompey since the 1975/76 season.

To enter, just answer the following question correctly: Which two players scored doubles when United won 4-1 at Portsmouth on the opening day of this season?

To enter, email your answer with an address and daytime contact telephone number to by 4pm tomorrow (January 9).

You must be over 18 to enter, and usual Oxford Mail competition rules apply.
