Andy Melville resigns as Oxford United coach

Herald Series: Andy Melville Andy Melville

Andy Melville has left Oxford United after five years as part of the club's coaching staff.

The former defender, who won 65 caps for Wales, said he does not have another job in mind, but intends to assess his options after resigning.

Melville told the club's website: "I have worked with some tremendous people and it has been a privilege to work at the club.

“I now feel that the time is right to move on. I don’t have a specific job out there to go to but I would like the opportunity to take stock and see what is available."

The mass clear out starts. Must admit I thought Melville could have been moved away from coachng and more into contracts etc which Lenagan refered to earlier in the year. Maybe he was offered that role but he rejected it.

It's a start, but there are a lot more to be given there notice, and Waddonk and Lenegan ought to start looking for others to come in quick, that lad Wilson at Man Utd last night needs a season in L2 i reckon.

I notice Deering, Worley, Guy and other Donkey Wilder men are also out of work, don't bring them back here.

. . . and to think we won the League Cup less than 30 years ago . . . . and now Rock Bottom in the 2014 form guide at the lowest level of the fully professional game!
COYY don't dwell - move on its a completely blank canvas and the whole of the summer to sort it out. Please lets try and build a team that strengthens through a season ie from Christmas and not weaken as we have done !

Never going to have a clean canvas. Until we move grounds. All the negatively around the ground needs to be removed, perhaps with a new chairman and more investment in a new ground or a ground nearby.
This club can be very big,but until this happens we we continue to run along the bottom of the leagues.
As I stated in early December, and has been proven where not good enough to go up.
My worry is that we will be in the bottom four in November and the head. Coach as it is called this time around will leave and because the chairman will not invest in the team, like Northampton chairman did we end up in the non league again and go bust.be sure the present chairman. Would leave at that point. You guy's may be pushing in the wrong direction onto purpose. Be satisfied with what you have take small steps.but we need to start again

What a stupid comment.
Give him a chance to get he own staff and players in and getting rid of most of Wilder's useless lot.
If he is't doing it after a couple of months of the we season then replace him

Melville jumped before pushed? Lewis still here as are most of the team that let both club and fans down. I'm hoping Lenagan isn't reconsidering who to let go (players still under contract) just to save money. We need a big statement from the Chairman in my opinion if he wants to to claw back the lost support over last two years.

Neither of you talk sense and clearly know nothing about football. How many teams do you see succeeding by having a revolving door for managers? Give the guy a chance based on building his own squad. At the end of the day there will not be a lot of money to splash around, so although I would like a complete refresh of the squad I don't think it's liable to happen.

Also why does everyone get on Lenegans back when he is the one financing our club and is the only reason that we are still alive?! Our club will not thrive and prosper until the stadium issue is resolved. Until then it's a huge millstone around our neck and means we just leak money through rent and lost match day revenue that K*ssam is getting.

Couldn't agree more MiddleBartonYellow. I seem to remember Richard Wickson having a hissy fit on these boards a few years ago, and vowing never to come back, but sadly he has! Please cheer up Richard, it's only a game of football, although I agree it's not the best quality, we have a bit of a non league look about us at the moment.

Need to give Gary Waddock a chance, also IL is the only thing between the club surviving or going bust. The first few months of next season, will show where the club is going, and if it doesn't look good, then I'm sure Big Al will be available to take over....
