JOHN Campbell and Chey Dunkley scored on their Oxford United debuts as the development side won 3-0 away to a young Aston Villa side.

Both the new signings were in need of a game after being cup-tied for the clash with Tranmere Rovers last Saturday.

And they made the most of their first appearances in a yellow shirt, netting for a visiting side that also included Michael Raynes, Jon Meades and Josh Ruffels.

Sam Humphreys was also on target.

Mickey Lewis, United’s assistant head coach, said: “Chey and John both played 90 minutes and did well and I’ll also give a special mention to Josh Ashby and Josh Ruffels in midfield because they both had very strong games.

“The result’s not important, it’s attitude and performances that you’re looking for and I thought we showed plenty of character as well as ability.”

Oxford Utd: Crocombe, Long, Raynes, Dunkley, Meades (Conte 75), Ashby, Ruffels, Hawtin, Shama, Humphreys, Campbell.
