MICHAEL Appleton says he would be shocked if Oxford United were charged by the Football Association for an altercation in the tunnel after the derby with Swindon Town.

The head coach has not disclosed what took place after the final whistle at the County Ground, but did arrive for his post-match interviews with a small cut on his right cheek.

It is clear there was a fracas after United’s 2-1 victory and the FA continue to make enquiries about the incident.

But with the dust now having settled, Appleton is adamant no-one representing the visitors stepped out of line and is not expecting any sanctions to come United’s way.

He said: “I’m sure (Swindon) will have a few questions to answer regarding what happened afterwards.

“I know (Robins head coach) Luke Williams came out afterwards and said something about a spitting incident, which I’ve got absolutely no idea about whatsoever.

“Nothing was said in the manager’s office after the game, so I’m sure if anything did happen like that the first person he would’ve spoken to would’ve been me.

“The only person who was a little bit angry and disappointed after the game was me, but I’m going to leave that to the FA and people who deal with that to come back with the right answers.

“I would be shocked if there was (a charge) and we would fight that as strongly as you can if that was the case.”
