KARL Robinson has urged Jon Obika to keep on top of his fitness issues after the striker made an impact off the bench on Good Friday.

The 27-year-old was fouled for the penalty which got the U’s a precious point in a 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe United.

It was part of an impressive display full of power and energy, but United fans have not seen it enough from a player hampered by a series of injuries this season.

The performance could get him in the starting line-up to face Shrewsbury Town today, but Robinson was blunt in his assessment of Obika.

The U’s head coach said: “If he stays fit, he’s a handful.

“If he’s not fit, he’s no use to anyone.”

With no new fitness issues, United are likely to name the same 18-man squad for their trip to Shropshire.

Shrewsbury will be without defender Toto Nsiala, who was stretchered off with a fractured cheekbone in their 3-1 defeat at Rochdale.

Abu Ogogo is suspended, but influential winger Alex Rodman could return.
