RICARDINHO was happy with Oxford United’s performance, if not the result, against Oldham Athletic.

The 0-0 draw at the Kassam Stadium ensured the U’s remain in the Sky Bet League One relegation battle, albeit with an extended five-point advantage over the bottom four.

A win would have taken Karl Robinson’s men clear of the scrap.

But Ricardinho was buoyed by the team’s whole-hearted display.

He said: “With the result we’re a bit upset.

“We wanted to win. Because we’re near the bottom we need to get up as soon as possible.

“Of course, we know we could be a little better and score, but we are happy with what we did in the game.

“One point at home is not too bad and now we have to look to the next one.

“We don’t have much time to think about it.

“We look to the next game, see what we did wrong and try to fix it.”

Oldham boss Richie Wellens praised the way his side slowed the game down after a shaky start.

He said: “It was an entertaining 0-0 draw, both teams went at it.

“Oxford started better than us, but we managed the game really well and broke it up.

“We took our time on certain things and the game changed.

“In the second half away from home, I thought we were the team really trying to win it, without trying to lose it as well.”
